We created this content film for CareZA (a project by the Centre for Analytics and Behavioural Change) to highlight gender-based violence in South Africa. We used Women’s Month (August) to talk about GBV as a men’s issue.
The stats in SA are shocking: 46.6% of women report having experienced some form of intimate partner abuse in their lifetimes! And while we should talk about women as survivors and victims, we don’t want to take the spotlight off men as the perpetrators. In this haunting piece we delve into why men become abusive, because therein lies the solution to reducing the violence. Directed by Aadil Dhalech from Patriot Films and sound design by Nic van Reenen from Field Sound. A link on our Facebook post led to a website where men and women could access various sources if they needed guidance and support.
