Season 1 - Episode 3

In Episode 3, Riaad reminds the viewers that he’s a doctor, in case his mom hasn’t told everyone already. Being a doctor, Riaad Moosa is in a good position to talk about COVID vaccine rumours, like the one that claims the vaccine is causing more variants of the virus.

To explain why this is nonsense, Riaad talks Greek (alpha, beta, delta, omicron) and wonders if the next variant will be the Zach Galifianakis variant. He explains that variants of viruses occur naturally in nature as they morph and evolve to beat our immune systems. In fact, vaccines help reduce the spread and severity of the virus, ultimately decreasing the chances for mutations.

Here are 2 more reasons why the COVID-19 vaccine did not cause the variants:

  1. Pre-Vaccine Variants: Some variants emerged before widespread vaccine distribution, indicating they were not caused by the vaccine.
  2. Selective Pressure: While vaccination creates selective pressure, it’s not the cause of variants. Unvaccinated populations allow the virus to spread and mutate more, potentially leading to new variants.

Every episode gave viewers pause for thought. We set out to persuade with evidence presented through comedy, and never be preachy.
