Season 1 - Episode 6

The Covid-19 vaccine conspiracy theories are nuts. It takes balls to believe them. Okay, okay we just wanted to make some bad puns around the next topic which was explored in the penultimate episode of Under The Microscope. In Episode 6, Doctor Moosa examines the false claim that the vaccine makes men sterile.

In his pursuit to persuade people not to believe the rumour, he brings up C-list South African musician Steve Hofmeyr (who publicly stated that he thought the vaccine was a “money making plot”) as someone who, if the falsehood was actually true, would consider getting the vaccine as a way to stop fathering so many children (Hofmeyr has six).

However, Riaad doesn’t just talk about Steve, wait for the moment that he also includes a very personal (and funny) anecdote. Laugh, learn and share the facts:

  1. Numerous scientific studies have shown that the COVID-19 vaccines do not affect male fertility. Sperm parameters remain unaffected after getting the vaccine.
  2. Health authorities, including the CDC and WHO, confirm there is no scientific evidence to show that vaccines impact male fertility.
  3. The biological mechanism of the vaccines work by instructing cells to produce a protein that triggers an immune response, and don’t affect reproductive organs or functions.
